My favourite place in the World

Scotland

That’s the short story, if you want to know why keep reading.

Also worth noting I’m writing this with a bit of jealousy right now as my brother is on a road trip with his family in Scotland as I write, and he keeps sending my pictures of the Whisky he’s trying!

I’ll get the most obvious point out of the way first, it’s the most beautiful country out there, the land and the people! Granted I haven’t travelled the world that much yet but I doubt my opinion will change. What on earth could compare to the highlands, insane views in every direction, when you’re driving through the quiet roads you feel like you’re in another world. I can’t wait to drive around the NC500 (and play as many golf courses as I can on the way)! I got a taste of it when I went to the Isle of Skye last year, which was amazing so I’m eager to see what else the highlands have to offer! Especially now that I have a drone.

Scotlands in my blood! Well at least 50% of it is as my dads side of the family are from Aberdeen! Without a doubt when Scotlands goes independent from the UK I’ll be trying my hardest to get myself a Scottish passport. I should be able to get one due to my dads side of the family and I think I also have one of the most Scottish names possible “Cameron Grant Beedie” which is THREE Scottish surnames… Could you get more Scottish?

Now the Isle of Arran, an isle just off the west coast of Glasgow, holds a very special place in my heart. Not only does it have 6 incredible golf courses, bearing in mind the island is tiny. The coast road is only 56 miles (I think I’d like to cycle that one day). But moreover it’s the final resting place of my dad.

Today (23rd August) would have been his birthday! Around this time back in 2018, a few months after he had passed our whole family took a trip up to the island to spread his ashes, because he used to go there on holiday when he was a kid, and he always told me he wanted to ‘retire’ there. Well now he’ll be there forever.

That was the first time I visited the island, since then I’ve been twice with my brother to play golf, we always go around this time of year. Due to my dad having a bad ankle, I never actually got to play golf with him before he passed, but when we’re there it feels like he’s there with us. It became a running joke that we’d blame him for all of our bad shots! Or now that I think about it it could be Charlie chasing the ball! Charlie was a little white westie, she was our first family dog who went to stay with my dad when my parents split. Unfortunately 6 or so months after my dad passed she decided to go a join him in the next life. So in 2019 a year after spreading our dads ashes, my brother and I went to Arran for that first golf trip and took Charlie’s ashes to spread on the same beach so they could spend an eternity together.

Here are a collection of images from my trips to Scotland, they some of my favourite images and some the speak more words to me that I could say. And if you’re interested 2 of them are available to purchase in my store.
